4 Anime That Should’ve Had A Second Season

As anime continues to stake a claim for itself as one of the most popular genres in the world, thousands of viewers are finding new anime to love every day. While many of these series gain massive fanbases easily, following up their success with treats like anime clothing and other apparel, others fall short of receiving the recognition they deserve.

Still, that’s not to say these anime aren’t worthy of a follow-up season. Here are some titles that ended too soon.

Ouran High School Host Club

This fan-favorite anime was released nearly 15 years ago and chronicles the events of a schoolgirl who, after accidentally breaking an expensive heirloom, must pay off her debt by working for the school’s host club — only, disguised as a boy. Surrounded by charismatic boys with a knack for captivating the ladies, main character Haruhi Fujioka encounters endless awkward, comical and bizarre interactions that give the show its unique charm.

Unfortunately, Ouran High School Host Club is another anime that doesn’t seem to be coming back anytime soon, no matter how loved it might be within the community. At least it’s still available on Netflix for fans to binge and new viewers to discover.

Btooom!

Released in 2012, Btoom! follows Ryota Sakamoto, who is nothing but your average loner in the real world. However, in the online video game Btooom!, Ryota is nothing short of a celebrity as the nation’s top player. The fantasy comes to an abrupt halt when the protagonist finds himself trapped inside of the game, armed with a bag of bombs. The catch? To leave the game, each person must kill seven of their fellow players — literally.

Despite gaining some popularity, even earning a videogame adaptation and anime apparel inspired by the series, Btooom! was only carried on by its manga counterpart.

Deadman Wonderland

Premiering in 2011, Deadman Wonderland is a disturbing anime that follows the lives of detained prisoners who are forced to compete in twisted games and battles to stay alive. Of course, regular people can join in on the fun by watching the events as if they were typical attractions at a theme park.

While the anime failed to return for a second season, Deadman Wonderland’s manga carried on for much longer, allowing fans to continue their fascination with everything horror.

High School of the Dead

Featuring teenagers fighting to stay alive as a zombie apocalypse takes over the world, High School of the Dead has left many fans eager for more ever since its release in 2010. With a plot that didn’t take it easy on the gore factor (or fan service), it’s not hard to see why so many fell in love with the series.

Unfortunately, this anime isn’t coming back anytime soon, as its original creator died before bringing the manga to a close. Still, this cult classic action-thriller remains available for both old and new fans to relive time and time again — even if it’s only 12 episodes long.
